Gil Conti has a university degree in Visual Arts – Design conferred by the Pontifical Catholic University in Rio de Janeiro. He is grandson to a Brazilian street puppeteer, and soon started learning from puppeteers from different parts of the world. Over ten years ago, after having gone through extensive puppetry training, he founded IôIô Puppet Theater Company, where he has been researching puppet building and staging with different types of puppets (glove, string, giant puppets, masks, etc.).

Gilberto is constantly creating and testing his plays in street performances all over Brazil. He has written six plays for IôIô’s repertoire and has participated in four plays by other authors, namely Ariano Suassuna’s Farce of Good Laziness (nominated for Shell Prize in the Best Female Costume Design category) in which he directed renowned actors in puppet scenes.

Gilberto’s international experience includes performances in the Brazilian Embassy in Brussels, Belgium, and the participation in 2009 TEATROTOC, Prague's Summer Street Theatre, having delivered six performances and taken a puppet building and manipulation course, with the financial support of the Brazilian Ministry of Culture. In 2010, he will take part in puppet theater festivals in Belgium, the Netherlands, France and Spain.
Presently, Gilberto is in Rio de Janeiro, and has been performing in theatres, streets and alternative places. He has started to write a play for a hospital on H1N1, and has been developing a project in partnership with the most important Brazilian Public Health Foundation (FIOCRUZ) aimed at an audiovisual production to be distributed nation-wide. He is also finishing a play named Orixas’ Chant, to be performed in Brazilian embassies as well as in puppet theater festivals throughout Europe. He will soon be back in Prague, where he intends to continue researching, collecting historical data on Prague’s puppeteers, and learning new techniques from them. Now he is studing to get master in Damu university in Czeck Republic.
